Doting Grandmother knits for a new baby

I love to knit, and as soon as I knew that I was going to be a grandmother ( a doting grandmother no less), I started to think about what to knit for a newborn baby. I decided on a simple wrap jacket, a pair of bootees, and a little hat. This is the little jacket that I've knitted.

This is a very simple pattern, but be warned, the edging is rather fiddly. I'm not a big fan of picking up stitches along an edge, and there is a awful lot of that in this pattern. Apart from that, it is so easy, so simple and so attractive- don't you think? The pattern comes from The Ultimate Book of Baby Knits by top designer Debbie Bliss. This book is excellent value, as it contains a wide range of patterns, all of them well written, clear and easy to follow.I used the recommended yarn, which is Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino, a lovely mix of fine wool and cashmere. It's a 4 ply, fingering weight, which comes in a huge range of colours. As I don't know the sex of my grandchild , I've gone for ecru, edged in duck egg blue. Duck egg blue is my daughter in law's favourite colour, and she thinks it suits a baby girl just as well as a baby boy. This is a link to the US version of Amazon, showing you Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino yarn I've included this so that you can see the full range of colours for this yarn.
